Today marks the start of the 46th Cairo International Film Festival, which will run from November 12 to 21, chaired by Hussein Fahmy and with artistic direction by critic Mohamed Tarek.

Fahmy confirmed that this year’s festival slogan centers on “humanity,” explaining that the new edition presents films that celebrate human values and emphasize the message of art in bringing peoples closer together.

The edition will honor director Mohamed Abdel Aziz and cinematographer Mahmoud Abdel Samie with the “Golden Pyramid for Lifetime Achievement” award, and Khaled El Nabawy with the “Faten Hamama Award for Excellence.” The Golden Pyramid Award will also be presented to Palestinian actress Hiam Abbass and Hungarian director Eldikó Enedi.

The official competition includes 12 international films, including the Egyptian film Sayel Ana Ezzar and the Palestinian film Kan Ya Makan fi Gaza, while nine films from Egypt and the Arab world are participating in the “Arab Cinema Horizons” section. The film “The Voice of Hind Rajab” by director Kawthar Ben Younes will be screened at the end of the festival after winning the Silver Lion award in Venice.

The jury for the international competition is chaired by Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan and includes actress Basma, director Nadine Khan, and a number of creative figures from Europe and Asia.
